Nathalie Latham was born in Brisbane, Australia, completed an MA in Asian Studies in Kyoto, Japan & Sydney. She is based in Paris, France.
She travels extensively, and bases her work on the people she encounters through her journeys using text and photography or video. Through her work, she attempts to break down preconceptions the viewer may have, and allude to the universality of the human experience, the relationship to self, others and one’s environment.
Latham recently exhibited the video work, Sleeping Angels at Ffotogallery, Cardiff, Wales; Arhus Kunstbygning, Centre for Contemporary Art, (Denmark) and Bildmuseet, Umea, (Sweden). Sleeping Angels was also screened at Leeds International Film Festival (UK) and presented by Anne Braybon in her Words & Imagesseries at the Tate Modern (London) .
The video Speaking Through Water was recently presented at Bratislava's Month of Photography while MUSKAT, a dance-video collaboration based on asylum seekers’ journeys to the UK was exhibited as a part of Diana Matar's Leave To Remain, exhibited at Plymouth City Museum (England).
#65,(a photographic-text series about the closed city where the first Soviet Union atom bomb was created) was exhibited in 2006 at Fotofest, Houston, USA and Centrum För Fotografi, Sweden.
Latham's Moleskin diaries , photo-text diaries of her loves and travels were exhibited at Darmstadt's Tage der Photographie in 2006.
In 2005, she presented Do You Vote a photo-text work at Trace gallery in Weymouth, England. The series will be presented at the London Houses of Parliament in 2007.
Latham's recent documentary film Où est passé le 14 juillet was screened in 2006 at the Pompidou Centre in Paris.
Latham´s long term series, s a f e g u a r d i n g raises awareness of the importance of the universal will and common concern to how we care for eachother, safeguard the environment and the cultural heritage of humanity.
Latham’s work has been published in the Australian Financial Review, Pluck Magazine [UK], Le Monde 2 in France, the Frankfurt Rundshau, Fotomagazin (Germany) , Pavilion (US-Romania) and Italy's Domus.
