Maribel Mas drawings strive to be, instead of closed structured works, links between moments of an intuitive temporality, like sediments on the paper at different intervals suggesting continuity, a becoming.
In Construcción de hilo y ceniza (Construction of thread and ash) series she draws herself as the last landscape, reduced to graphite dust rubbed with the hands on the paper, crossed by lines of red ink.There rises a shape between the air and the paper that seem to vanish in a spin,
barely hold by fragile links that refers to the an absent center of its architecture, the emptiness.
The series entitled Columna (Column) depart from the trace left by the pressure of a heavy paper
on the humid by ink lithographic stone. This is the print matrix for a base of skin like colours, on long and delicate stripes of Mitsumata paper that, with surprising strength, are capable of accept repeated prints without losing its delicacy and transparency,
turning itself into support for a tireless succession of fragment shapes: pieces reshaped by use, hardened by marks that will build their bone character, solid as well as light.
Vibración (Vibration) series can be seen as sequences of a metamorphosis: points becoming lines, from an initial drawing were each point is lengthten, multipling itself on both sides, tensed between to forces. The resultant extended points or lines could be reflects of single experiences, fleeting and unable to grasp, only interrupted when the accident appears. Points in metamorphosis, loosing its individualness and merging in an wide horizon line.
Vibración (Vibration) are lithography based unique pieces, the stone matrix is used for a monotype at the same time. During the printing process the wet stone is gradualy getting dried and then ink begans to adhere aleatory, in accidental red areas. The resulting images with its red pauses delimiting black velocity lines, vibrate in its own visual music.
The lithography Nudo (Knot) plates and stones emerge in attempt to understand the force generated by the union of two hands over the breast, manteined in attitude of receiving and protecting something fragile. Anathomy begined to blur while observing these hands become a single estructure, firm and delicate, tied by a web of tensions. From the ink washes on the metal plates to the drawings made with the hands on the stones or using sharp tools on dry-point plates, there was just one intention: to find the source of the forces that ties two joined hands and flows surrounding them. Without sketch or previous plan, it could be said that the images were finding themselves their own space, superimposing. A process fortunetly interventioned by the accident and the coincidence more than the rational self will of composing or imposing an idea.
Because there is not conceptual development the drawings rise from a strong and essential needs.
There is present in Maribel Mas works a concern for finding the limits between the feminine dispersing and recomposing the parts of the visible and the supposed, leads to an intuition of a net of links, of an elastic web, relaxed by the force of an enveloping tenderness. Unchangeable in its ability to cushion impacts, to dislocate reasons.
In Lipovetsky’s words, more important than the re-inscription of a marked territory is the fluctuation of that same place, the impossibility of constituency it and identify it: never identical to itself, to nothing, the feminine is plural, next and close fluid, ignores the “own” and inconsequence the position of the subject. How not acknowledge in this economy of fluids, in this conductible multiplicity, the own work of seduction that everywhere omits the Same, the Center, the linearity and proceeds to the dissolution of the rigid and of the solids ?
