Kumi Sugai (1919 - 1996)

Kumi Sagai studied art in Kobe, Japan before serving in World War II. He then traveled to Europe and settled in Paris in 1952, working as a painter, printmaker, and sculptor. Sugai incorporated his western influence into his work, infusing his prints with elements of the ukiyo-e technique. In 1962, Sugai began painting in a geometric style similar to Max Pechstein.
