Jacques Monory
(June 25th, 1934 - Paris)
For over fifty years, Jacques Monory (born in Paris in 1924) has been an integral part of the French artistic scene. After the early stages of his career, which coincided with pop art in the United States and Britain, he became a major figure in narrative representation, strongly influenced by American cinema, whose images he transformed to depict his view of contemporary reality. His canvases represent frozen moments from a virtual film that the viewer himself must reconstruct. Although Monory's vision is decidedly pessimistic, he is able to maintain an objective distance from the world, in both his life and works. Through the man himself, we discern his view of the universe.
