Jacques Hérold (Roumania, 1910 - France, 1987)
Surrealist painter and sculptor.
Born in Piatra, Roumani, he refused very early academic teaching of painting.
Arrived in Paris in 1930, he worked there for Brancusi and met some surrealist painter such as Yves Tanguy.
André Breton and Jean-Pierre Duprey wrote for him a list of paintings' titles and a text that Herold illustrated and stuck on Paris walls, a few time before May 1968, with poems by his friend Gherasim Luca.
Michel Butor and Alain Jouffroy have deeply studied his work.
