Born in 1953 in Moscow, Russia.

He studied at the Moscow Fine Arts School from 1965 to 1972 and took part in the 70s and 80s to artistic demonstrations rganized by non-conformist movements.

He left the USSR in 1981.

He lives and works in France since 1986.

Igor Bitman belongs to the Russians who have chosen to live in France.
Bitman places himself strongly in the Great Tradition, the one illustrated by Petrov-Vodkine for example or Balthus. Far away from expressionism, "Bitman is seeking the classical permanence, that is to say the duration, through an effort of will and understanding, as an opposition to the spectacular rapidity." (Max Fullenbaum)
