Eliane Larus

Is it profound or is it light ? Is it cultural or outsider ? The world created by Eliane Larus is both full of childhood nostalgia and aesthetic searches. Paintings or sculptures, her works are first of all some attempts to achieve a poetic emotion.

These masterpieces are disturbing, with characters that strongly exist and demonstrate their creative nature. Some are defined by a play geometry remarkably mastered, others by an unusual and touching humanity. It is a world of its own, full of portraits with simple titles that make them basic and strikingly ordinary.

Beyond a conventional exotism, the universe of Eliane Larus, with her long travel over Central America in 1991 still hesitate between hell or heaven, between serenity or first cracks - eventually, they are human.

On May 6th, 1981, Jean Dubuffet wrote to her : "I gladly see that for the past year, your work has developped and blossomed. The nice photographies that you've sent me testify for this. They are impressive. A vigorous and very inventive spirit, which seems to appear right from the conception phase and lasts through all the execution, enlightens each of them. The paintings at their different stages are delightful, full of strokes of inspiration in every details. It's full of an emotion that I can feel strongly..."

Eliane Larus is a winner of the 'Prix Léonard de Vinci pour les Arts Plastiques et pour le Mexique' in 1991. Her works are presented in France, Switzerland, the Netherlands and Spain, in more than twenty museums and institutions, including the French 'Fonds National d'Art Contemporain' and the 'Paris Museum of Modern Art'.
