Antonio Saura (1930 - 1998)

Spanish painter, printmaker, and draughtsman, Antonio Saura was a self-taught artist. While suffering from an extensive illness in 1947, he occupied time painting and studying. Saura lived in Paris from 1953 to 1955 and painted in the Surrealist style. After his return to Spain, he adopted a harsh expressive style of painting and focused on protesting the Franco regime.
