Collectionneurs - c'est une période intense : les belles pièces ressortent, et c'est l'époque où les transactions se font...
Car collectionner, cela peut mener loin... Dans les mêmes murs où se déroulent le grand salon parisien, Le Grand Palais choisit de réaliser un brillant hommage à des collectionneurs d'une autre époque : les Stein.
L’exposition éclaire l’importance de ces collectionneurs pour les artistes qu'ils ont suivis, et comment leur collection a contribué à imposer une nouvelle norme en matière de goût dans l’art moderne.
Effectivement, si la galerie doit tenir son rôle de promoteur, le collectionneur tient souvent un rôle unique, qui va bien au-delà du choix individuel pour une oeuvre d'art. Et pour les gravures et lithographies, l'effet est même multiplié par le nombre d'originaux...
Ainsi, l'artiste sait parfois où partent ses oeuvres, au moins pour les principales, et il peut deviner l'influence qu'elles pourront exercer, pour une commande publique dans un lieu publique, ou pour un cadre plus privé, du collectionneur.
Dans le cas des estampes, les lieux sont donc multiples : d'une entrée à une salle de réunion, en passant par un bureau, un carton à dessin ou une chambre - chaque illustration voyage et diffuse - à la recherche des ondes positives...
